The Secret of My Success

Posted on Sep 27, 2016

Ok that sounds kind of braggy, but let me make sure it’s clear…I’m talking about MY success, peeps! This is what works for me! Your success will look completely different than mine. However, I do have some tips that may help you along the way to yours. I will start a new job this week. I left a job that most people on this earth would think was the be-all-end-all and in some ways, it certainly was. I could work from home and make my own schedule, which as many of you know allowed me to even take my work to the U.S. Virgin Islands for three weeks. Oh, am I bragging again? I guess that is a bit of a boast, but it really drives the point home that even with the possibility of sunny beaches, working from home isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It certainly wasn’t mine, even though I could drink a cup of beloved coffee any time I damn well pleased, work in my pjs and take a long shopping-lunch. You see, I am a people person. (and now you’re saying, duh.) I love being around people, I get energy from being around people, and nothing makes me happier than connecting with someone—even if it’s...

She’s Got What I Don’t Have. But Why?

Posted on Jun 17, 2014

I had the most enlightening conversation this morning with my very best client—me. Doing my usual just-risen routine, scanning messages and Facebook as I hear the coffee pot rumble, I came across a beautiful, successful FB friend of mine doing things I would love to do and having lots of money to do it. My coffee-deprived (and food deprived..I’m coming off of a deep cleanse day with NO FOOD) Gollum brain immediately kicks in with, “Damnit. I want what she has.” It’s kind of an annoying thing, truth be told, but since I’m a life coach when some kind of self-loathing thought whines in my head I automatically start challenging it with smart-ass life coachy banter. Typically it all starts with repetition of only one William Shatner-type word. “Why?” “Because she has lots of money.” “Why?” “Because she’s earned it.” “Why?” “Because she went to school for XYZ and earned a degree.” “Why?” “Because she was interested in that.” “Were you interested in that?” “no.” “Did you go to school to get a degree in something that could make you a lot of money?” “no…” Now we all know that money can’t buy happiness and there are lots of ways to make it—even, no especially!—doing something you love. But...

Losing the Weight…(and not just in pounds…)

Posted on Jun 4, 2014

Eeek. I just signed up for a 30 day fat-burning cleanse, and I have such mixed feelings about it. I have never believed in diets. I think eating healthy and moving your body is pretty straight-forward, really. Let’s face it–we ALL know what we need to do. It’s just a matter of doing it. Dieting will never work for me. First off, I don’t want to follow rules. If someone tells me I can’t have something I want it more than ever. It makes me feel stupid that someone is telling me something that I already know. And I honestly don’t believe in deprivation or having anything be off-limits–unless of course you have an intolerance for something, which is a whole different story altogether. I know that if I tell myself I will never eat any junky food or drink a gin and tonic another day of my life I am setting myself up to FAIL, big-time. And honestly, I don’t want to live that way. The past year or so I’ve looked at myself in photos and have been disappointed by what I see. Yup, this is totally vain–I fully admit it. Do I think body shape is what makes a person beautiful? Of course not. But I...

Who’s in Your Fellowship?

Posted on Dec 13, 2012

Ahhh.  Here’s where I get to rave on about one of my favorite subjects in the whole wide world….The Lord of the Rings.  I figure with the release of the backstory film (s!) to the trilogy, The Hobbit, it is perfect timing.  And just the excuse I’ve been waiting for. 🙂 I will admit that it was the first movie, not the book, that reeled me in.  A few months after  “The Fellowship of the Ring“,  came out on DVD I decided to rent it to see what all the hype was about.  I had tried to read ‘The Hobbit‘ as a youngster but honestly, I just couldn’t get into it.  I couldn’t even remember what the whole thing was about, but it intrigued me.  This was in the days before Netflix, my friends, so I actually had to get my butt to the video store (do they even still call them that?!) to get it. As I watched the credits roll after my first of many viewings, I sat on the couch with my jaw on the ground.  Something in me had shifted.  I had to run right out and buy all of  the books, starting with The Hobbit.  I needed to know every detail about this saga....
